hittin' hilton head.

i look good in anything.Hello all. Happy Friday. It's a particularly happy Friday for me as it marks the last day before my spring break vacation. That's right, even a high-end fair-to-middling blogger like myself needs a vacation every now and then.

We're going to Hilton Head, South Carolina for the week. I've never been there before. I've never really been to the south before. I'm not sure my northern liberal waspy ways will be suited for the south, but I've watched every episode of Mama's Family so I think I'm as prepared as I can be. I hear there are a lot of golf-related activities in Hilton Head. I'm not much of a golfer. Still, I can give it a shot. I'm not a fan of golf clothing, but I'll be on vacation and nobody will know me there.

Argyle shirts and puffy pants, here I come!

I'm hoping at the very least there'll be a Girls Gone Wild production crew there. It seems like all those girls gone wild are from the south. I've lived in the Boston area for most of my life and I've never come across a Girls Gone Wild production crew. I even crashed a frat party at BU a few years ago and there wasn't even a guy following drunken girls with a Polaroid camera. What's up with that? So I bet they really know how to party down south. I expect a grand old time.

Been waiting all my life for this.

So you're probably worried about what will become of Utter Wonder in my absence. (And if you aren't worried, keep it to yourself. That kind of apathy will do nothing for my blog ego. Thanks.) Well, worry not because I have secured the services of not one, but two guest-bloggers who will take over the reigns for the entire week.

First up is Cathy Hannan. Cathy Hannan is not only one of the co-operators of Lost and Frowned, but an Utter Wonder Hall of Fame member as well. She also sent me some light bulbs last week. And before you start screaming "Scandal!" take a chill-pill: I'm not letting her guest-blog because she was nice enough to send me light bulbs. I'm letting her guest-blog because she also sent me a check for fifty dollars.

Teaming up with Cathy is Kyle Whelliston. Kyle guest-blogged for me last year. He used to be a hip and happenin' blogger, but has since seen the light and is now simply hip and happenin'. Kyle will be here on Thursday and Friday. No word yet on whether he plans to sing for you. Fingers-crossed.

So there you go. You'll be fine. Treat Cathy and Kyle well. Be cordial and kind and make sure to visit Utter Wonder every day at least nine times. I don't want to see any of you slacking off just because I'm on vacation. I'll be back Monday, April 26.

Have a nice weekend.

Comments.

I'm not sure Hilton Head, SC qualifies as "the South," except in purely geographic terms.

You'd need to go inland a ways to get a better feel for it.

(I grew up in New Hampshire, worked a while in Boston, then in my late 20s went to grad school in Mississippi and haven't left the South since... )

Hiya Edw.:
Good to know. I actually figured as much. I lived in Madison, Wi for a couple of years, but never really considered that the Midwest considering many there were/are transplanted Easterners. Go Sox!

Hilton Head, isn't that what Paris... oh, nevermind, it's too easy.

I was just down in North Carolina last weekend, which I know is even less of the south, but still. Hilton Head sounds a bit ritzy. We hung out in places called "Gum Neck" and "Frying Pan Landing". It was south enough for us. The Awesome Beloved and I had driven two 5-foot alligators down to the area (the northernmost part of their range)to release them into the wild. I doubt this is strictly legal, but it probably beats them spending the rest of their lives up here in an NYC bathtub (BTW Sox suck!). Anyway, just wanted to let you know the beach was really fabulous there, and should be even warmer and better further south. We had a helluva time. Hope you and your family have a helluva time as well!

Hiya Kyle:
Thanks for showing some restraint.

Hiya Wylie:
Thanks for the vacation wishes. Am worried about water temps there, but you've just made me a little optimistic.

Have fun for me. All I get to do this weekend is head out on back-to-back dates with the same man...

How's that for planning? We haven't even had the first date of the two and we already have plans for the second. What if the first date blows (and not in a sexy way either) and I don't want to see him again? He'll pester me about date #2. It'll be a disaster.

I'd rather be playing golf.
