Last night's reading went great. Here's are some photos from the event:

Event coordinator and book contributor Jim Behrle started things off with a fine introduction of Dave Eggers.

Dave Eggers read a few lists from the book. He was funny and kind and gracious: everything I had hoped he'd be. The crowd went crazy for him.

Then it was the contributors' turns. Peter Ferland went first. He read his story "Circumstances Under Which I Would Have Sex with Some of My Fellow Jurors." It was very funny. He did a great job reading the thing, too.

Kurt Luchs was up next. He read his piece "The Sprit of Christmas". Again, very funny. The crowd ate it up.

Then it was my turn. (I've decided to honor my pledge of never posting an actual picture of myself on this site. So while that is my body and awesome shirt, that is not my face. That's the face of another guy named Chris Monks. While he's handsome, he doesn't come close to matching the beauty that is my face. But I'm a man of my word, so I altered the pic.)

I was pretty nervous, but I pronounced all the big words well-enough and never really messed-up.

The crowd seemed to like me a lot.

Some a little too much, especially the defrocked Irish priests in the crowd. I don't know what it is about defrocked Irish priests, but they absolutely love me.

But all in all, I think I did better than I expected.

After the reading, Dave and us contributors stuck around and signed books. That was fun, too. I had a hard time coming up with clever things to write in each book.

So instead I gave each audience member a lap dance.

People responded really well to my lap dances.

And then the night was over and it was time to go to jail home. I was honored to be a part of the event. I hope I can do it again some time.
