Inauguration Day.

oh boy. It's Inauguration Day. I had planned to blog the whole event, but then I realized there's no way I'd be able to handle watching all the coverage. Inaugurations aren't exactly a lot of fun. Too much pomp and circumstance. What is "pomp" anyway? I mean, I guess I have a sense of what pomp is, but I've never heard it used by itself, you know, without the "circumstance." Let me Google it. Hold a sec...Okay, so apparently "Pomp" is the little Indian baby depicted on the Sacagawea dollar. Now I'm even more confused.

Regardless, I won't be watching much of President Bush's inauguration today. Perhaps I'll click the TV on from time to time to see all the white people partying, but I'm not going to plan my day around the thing. Besides, it's not like the parties are going to be hip and happening or anything. Kid Rock or no Kid Rock, the musical acts lined up prove yet again what a soulless and boring bunch the Republican Party is. Brooks and Dunn, Gloria Estefan, and JoJo hardly make me want to miss the season premiere of The Apprentice.

It makes me wonder about all those 20-somethings who voted for Bush. They really wanted to support a guy who is backed by musical acts like that? That's not very "extreme" or "radical" of them. For one of Clinton's inaugural balls, REM and U2 played together. Micahel Stipe sang "One." Now how cool is that? Okay, maybe not nearly as cool now as it seemed at the time. REM isn't nearly as cutting edge as it used to be. Same for U2. But still, in this age where everything seems to be about status, how could you vote for a guy who has lame bands work his inauguration?

Anyway, congratulations, Mr. President. I wish you the best of luck for the next four years. From here on in I'll never hear a song by JoJo without thinking about you. Quack-quack!

Is it an inaguration or a coronation? I can't remember.
