Photos of the Utter Wonder Humor Reading (Vol. II).

The second Utter Wonder Humor Reading is over and done with. Thankfully, as was the case the first go 'round, nobody died during the event. In fact, all who attended seemed to had a good time. Here are some poorly lit photos from last night for you to squint at:
try to look more interested.
The crowd at the Plough and Stars was clearly primed and ready to be entertained by a fair-to-middling blogger and two other guys.

not my face.
I took the stage and read a couple pieces. I'm most proud of the fact that my "ah" and "um" rate was at an all-time low of 5.17 per sentence.

The crowd loved me.

Jason Roeder was up next. He read his blizzard story and his linear notes piece. Hilarious.

Then it was Steven Brykman's turn. He read a couple funny selections from his book Rule of Thumb while making slow, sweet love to the overhead projector.

Yes, that's right: there was an overhead projector. We kicked it old school last night. Powerpoint is for skanks. The overhead came in handy for my bit about my blog war with Ken Jennings.

Here I read a few of the things Ken Jennings' "fans" had written about me on his blog's message board.

The audience ate it up.

Then it was time for the grand finale: my trivia smackdown of Jennings. Not surprisingly, Jennings chickened out and didn't show. So Steven bravely filled in. And then proceeded to kick my ass. It totally sucked.

People wanted the trivia smackdown to continue, but it was time to wrap things up.

All in all, it was another successful reading at the Plough.

This post is dedicated to riot gear.

Well, a photo of your body may be just a step, but there is no such thing as a small step. Wow; I was going for profundity there, but I totally whiffed, huh?

I take small steps all the time. Sometimes not more than a centimeter or so. The trick that I can't seems to get down is keeping the upper part of my body to move in time with that so that my head will stop smacking into the ground. The blood really messes my hair up.

Maybe I'm squinting too hard, but in the crowd shot, I swear I can see ex-Rep. Mark Foley (!!!) and Larry David.

What's with all the old people in that first pic? Are there really that many hip old people?

Once again, Utter Wonder has fundamentally changed the way I view the world.

Sorry I didn't make the reading. I hate the Plough, especially all those old people. They are probably Plough regulars. You see, Parker, The Plough is smack in the middle of Cambridge. Those people are old hippies trying to relive the glory days of street theater and mime rebellion. In the Boston area we call them Cantabrigians (sp?). Their grandchildren usually dress up as puppets during protests. I much prefer the CMonks fans who like keeping warm by torching cars. In the Boston area, we call these people Allstonians. These "Allstonians" are not related to the bad ska band of the same name that predeceased the Mighty Mighty Boss-Tones.

Hey! Don't go dissin' cmonks parents and grandparents like that! That's just wrong on so many levels.

OK guys, Ken is getting annoyed now.

And he has accused you all of giving up!

Might I also suggest always making a post to "CMonks: Threat or Menace" as this keeps that post up at the top of the page.
