Yeah, Right, Whatever.

I think this might be the most important scientific discovery of all time. I've dreaded what it's like to be mentally debilitated or old, and the idea of losing the ability to recognize sarcasm sounds like hell. But when you think about it, that's the trouble with the oldies: they can't tell when you're trying to make a funny. Like the old guy who lives down the street from me. I comment on his silly face all the time. I'm like, "Nice face, oldy!" And he's all, "Go away! Leave me alone! As a boy I was trapped in a circus fire!" I mean, god. Lighten up a little bit, pops. Am I right, America?

Comments.

I'd never heard of 'semantic dementia' before. That sounds horrible by itself, like a dementia just for writers. Anyway, I didn't see it as that surprising, or as surprising as they are making it unless the whole piece is meant to be sarcastic. I could've told you that sarcasm is more an artful, right-brained activity than a purely communicative tool. Plus, you can feel a little ping in the right side of your brain every time you detect sarcasm if you listen closely. (didja hear it?)
